Suggestions in regard to RR Transportation |

Oct 3 Respy returned to Sec of War.
The route to Kanawha from Lynchburg is by RRoad to Jacksons River Depot
the present terminus of the Va. Central RR, the completion of the bridge
over Jacksons River the road will be continued to within ten miles of
Lewisburg, the rapidity of the current & rocky bottom does not admit the
building of a common structure. Therefore it will be well that Jos R
Anderson & Co be permitted to complete their contract with the Central
RR for an iron bridge at the second crossing of the River four miles
from the Depot. When the work on the bridge is commenced the laying of
the track will also begin. I have directed an officer to examine the
points of Bonsack & Salem on the Va & Tenn RR with a view of opening
communication with the Kanawha, whereas supplies may be sent from
Lynchburg when they cannot go by the present route. |
