As to iron for laying track on road from
Montgy to Marion Springs |
Gen R. Taylor |
|
Oct 15/64 Communication between Union
Springs & Montgy is regarded of great importance & from one of the
sources heretofore noted the iron should be supplied if thereby the
connection could be promptly secured. Jeff Davis |
Oct 19/64 From endorsement of Genl Gilmer
it appears the iron on this Road has been in view of the dept for
removal. It can be employed as suggested by Genl Taylor if your judgment
& approves that as the best use of it. There is no doubt however that
other important uses likewise demand that & as much more rail road iron
as we can command. The question is one of relative necessities & as I
hve explained orally I have been disposed to regard the connection with
Marion Springs as probably of temporary need & secondary importance. JAS
