Requests that the within mentioned RR iron
be collected by agents of QM Dept. |
Col J F Gilmer Eng Bureau |
|
Respectfully referred to the QMGenl for
report as to his ability to comply with the suggestions herein. |
By order of the Secty of War |
|
I respectfully submit that upon the order
of the Secretary of War directing the iron herein referred to to be
taken, the Railroad authorities if requested to do so would have it
collected and delivered more promptly than it could be otherwise done.
In case Weldon should fall the Clarksville Road
{The Roanoke Valley RR} in connection with the river navigation
will form our only connection with the South. The iron on that road
should not be taken. The QM Department if directed by the Secretary to
do so will make every effort to secure the collection and delivery of
this iron to the Piedmont Road. |
