I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your order of
the 8th inst endorsed on my letter of 30th ultmo returned to me (thro
Maj. Carrington) and recd by last mail directing me to inform the
officers of the Pied. {Piedmont} RR Co
that the Road being now completed the dept. can no longer undertake to
furnish supplies or transportation.

I communicated your order immediately to the President of
the Pied Rail R Co and have received from Dr T P Atkinson Prest Pro
Tem, an answer, a copy of which I herewith enclose.

|
I respectfully recommend that the request therein made be
granted, viz that the supplies of Forage &c may not be cut off
from the R R Co at once but some time say until the end of the present
month be allowed them to make arrangements for getting supplies from
other sources.
