Supt. Naval Powder Works |
Columbia, S. C. |
|
Sir, |
Your letter of the 29th ultimo
has been received. At present there does not appear to be any reason to
believe that the enemy will advance upon Columbia. If such an event
should happen you will exercise your discretion as to the best course to
pursue, removing if necessary the machinery and stores to Charlotte N.
C. {going up the Charlotte & South Carolina RR}
as a place of safety and leaving the selection of another site
combining all the advantages required in the manufacture and
transportation of powder to be determined hereafter. |
Respectfully |
Your obt. Sevt. |
John M. Brooke |
Commander in charge |
