I beg to refer you to my letter of Novr
1862. In explanation for continuing the charge of four cents per mile
for moving Troops over the Nashville & Chattanooga Rail Road.
Other reasons might be added to those given in letter referred to.
Such as pulling back of our army, further loss of road &c &c.
But I hope the reasons already given are sufficient to satisfy you of
the propriety and justice of the charge. While we have advanced our
charges on freight, about one hundred per cent on Individuals. We are
still hauling freight for the Government at the low rates agreed upon
in 1861, when labor, Rail Road Material and Supplies were so much
lower than at present. |
