| In reply to your communication of the 2nd
inst enclosing a letter from Mr E W Cole Supt of the Nashville & Chattanooga
RR Company setting forth reasons why the increased rates for
Transportation heretofore allowed up to May 1st last should be
continued. I have specially to authorize you to settle the
Transportation account of the Company to the 1st Inst at the rate of
four cents a mile for Troops. |

| The above is a copy of yr orders for
settlement to 15th Decm and greater reasons exist now for the
increased rate as the falling back of the army leaves us twenty five
miles less of our road then at that time and even other reasons in
especially applicable for the increased rate |
