Maj. H. J. Ranney |
Pres: New Orleans, Jackson & Great
Northern R. Road, New Orleans |
|
Sir, |
Since your liberal and patriotic tender
of the services of your company, free of charge, for transportation
of troops and munitions of War, to the President of the Confederate
States, as indicated by the resolutions of the company enclosed in
your letter to him of April 20th -- which letter was duly
acknowledged by the Secretary of War. |
I have the honor to inform you that a
convention of Rail Road Presidents assembled in Montgomery at which
resolutions were adopted on the subject of transportation of the
Army. Had you been present, no doubt, your concurrence in the
proceedings would have been cordially given. I therefore enclose you
the Communication I addressed to the Convention, together with the
resolutions, and request your adoption of them. The terms on the
accompanying printed sheet, I will thank you to have struck off and
distributed for use along the line of your road. |
