I have to report that two Rifle Cannon, marked as near as I
can make out, Genl A. S. Johnston, Nashville, were brought here last
night on the Weldon train {on the Wilmington &
Weldon RR}, by mistake the agents say. They are to be sent back
today. |
I call your attention to this matter with the hope that
some stringent steps may be taken with the Rail Road companies in regard
to army transportation. Their neglect or indifference would almost lead
to a suspicion of their loyalty. I have frequently had cause to complain
of the delay in forwarding promptly ordnance intended for posts in this
Department. |
