Dear Sir, |
Our Company has audited accounts against
the Government to the amount of over $50,000.00. This is for
transportation of troops and supplies for the last six months. The
accounts were audited by Capt. A. E. Lassall formerly transportation
Quartermaster at Memphis, Tenn. now located at Columbus Miss. One of
the accounts is audited by Capt. N. L. Lawrence while he was
transportation Quartermaster at Memphis & now located at Vicksburg
Miss. All were audited under the direction of Maj. W. J. Anderson
formerly Post Quartermaster at Memphis & now located at Columbus
Miss. |
We have up to this time been unable to
collect a single dollar of the claim, on the plea that there was no
money in their hands. Promises have been made from time to time but
have so far availed nothing. Maj. Anderson & Capt. Lassall at
Columbus Miss. have promised the money every few months for the last 3
months. Our Company have endeavored to wait patiently supposing the
money would soon be paid but with a treasury well nigh exhausted and
no better prospect for the payment of the claims than heretofore, we
apply to you hoping that through your influence we may be enabled to
collect the accounts. We are at present doing very little and nearly
all we do is for the Govt. and unless our claims are promptly adjusted
we are unable to meet the monthly expenses of the Road. Can we collect
our accounts at Richmond if went there, or are they to be collected
from the auditing Quartermasters. |
Your attention is respectfully called to
the matter and an early answer will greatly oblige me. |
Very Respty Yr. Obdt. Sevt. |
