Upon my return to the City I found your communication of
Decr. 3rd to which I hasten to reply. Enclosed I send you copies of
the proceedings of the Convention referred to in your note. You will
perceive that no resolution respecting the free transportation of sick
and wounded soldiers was passed by the Convention. In this Connection
I would respectfully suggest that this and other Railroad Companies
throughout the South are under existing arrangements contributing
largely and beyond their just transportation to the support of the
Government and any additional burthens that might be imposed upon them
would be oppressive.
