Captain, |
I am in receipt of your favor
of the 9th inst. While Genl. Hood's Army has to be supplied by this
Rail Road officers must not make any calculations on local
transportation as we cannot perform it, and it will be well to inform
them of this fact to prevent disappointment. The regular run of the
Passenger Engines is sufficient for the men & machines, and I
cannot take Davis or interfere with the movement of his train again
for any purpose. He has more than he can do to transport cross ties,
lumber, wood and other materials required for the rebuilding &
operating the Road. If the Trains are not fully loaded with other
supplies, the Cars will be sent to the Mills as you request, but their
movement must be subordinate to this. |
The Quarter Master who audits
our accounts under instructions from the Quarter Master General has
notified us that no signatures on shipping papers of Government Freight
will be recognized but those of Quarter Masters. |
This effectually prevents the
shipment of Government Freight to any point where there is no Quarter
Master, and I shall be forced to instruct our Agents accordingly. |
Very Respectfully |
L. J. Fleming |
