Messrs. Pitts & Cook |
Atlanta, Ga. |
|
Gentlemen, |
***** |
I will endeavor to get you up the lumber
you wish from the {Macon &} Brunswick R. R.
though the difficulty of procuring transportation on that road is very
great, owing to the very small amount of rolling stock owned by the
Company. |
***** |
I expect that a full train will go down to
Stat. 17 1/2 on the Central {(of Georgia)}
R. R. for your lumber tomorrow, and the train will go on, I suppose, to
Atlanta on the following day. I am notified by the Central R. R. Co.
that if their cars in this train are detained longer than three days
they will be charged for at the rate of $12.00 each per day, as you pay
the freight I notify you of this fact so that you may use personal
exertion to get the cars off on their way back to Macon, empty unless
there is freight immediately ready for Macon without delay. I
write to Maj Sehon, Q. M., requesting him to prevent any Govt. seizure
of the cars. There will probably be some cars belonging to the Central
R. R. and some of Col. Minor's coal cars, the latter should of course be
turned over to Col. Minor or his Agt. in Atlanta. The engineer or
conductor of the train will know the destination of the cars (some may
also be Macon & Western R. R. cars running for coal for Maj. Cuyler of
Macon Arsenal, if so, they are to go on to the Etna coal mines). |

I am, Gentlemen, |
Very Respectfully |
J. W. Mallet Capt. |
