| I wish to enquire whether you can now fill
orders for platform cars, or for the wheels and axles for same, if you
cannot, whether such orders can be filled in Augusta. The increasing
difficulty of procuring transportation threatens to put a stop to the
progress of Government buildings for Ordnance purposes under my
direction at this place, and I am anxious to procure if possible 4 to 6
(or the wheels and axles for same) to be used exclusively here for the
transport of Government building materials. I shall be most obliged if
you will furnish me at your earliest convenience with all possible
information as to the means existent at Augusta for supplying the want
in question. |
