Macon Ga. March 24th 1863

Messrs Wadley, Jones, &c
Herndon, Burke Co. Ga.

Gentlemen,
I have this morning seen Mr Adams, Supdt. of the Central {(of Georgia)} R/R, and endeavored to obtain a train for the lumber at your mill, which I greatly need. Such is the press of demands for transportation of food for the army and one or two other urgent Government needs that Mr Adams holds out no prospect of obtaining a train for this establishment for some time.
On my informing him of the absolute necessity to me of getting your lumber he agrees to have two or three cars at a time left by the regular freight trains upon the turn-out at your station provided you will undertake to run them out in daylight with your own hands to load upon the main track, and will be responsible for running them safely back upon the turn-out clear of the trains. He will on these conditions give you the necessary control of the switch, and says that cars can probably be left quite frequently, say once or twice a week.
I will agree to pay any reasonable compensation for the extra labor of running the cars on and off of the turn out.
By this plan alone can your lumber probably be carried off for some time.
I hope therefore you will adopt it, and will ask you to let me know the fact as promptly as possible, so that I may at once procure the lumber I most need.
