Mr. Walls (Railroad Contractor)
Milledgeville, Ga.

Sir,
You called at my office, I believe, a short time ago to enquire whether I would hire a number of rail-road laborers, 50 or 75, to do the grading of the works under my charge. I omitted at the time to take a memorandum of your name and address, but hope that this letter will be so far correctly addressed as to reach you.
Finding now that I shall need a larger proportion of my hands for other departments of the work than I had anticipated, and not wishing to hire any more, I have some thoughts of contracting for a portion of the heavier grading, so as to get it done in good twice, without interfering with the rest of the work.
Understanding that you are still short of work for your hands I write to enquire at what rate per cubic yard you would be willing to contract for 20,000 to 50,000 or more yards. Any further particulars of the work you can obtain, if you desire them, at my office.
I am Sir,
Very Respectfully
Yr. obt. Servt.
J W Mallet, Capt.
Supt. C. S. Laboratories
