In consequences of the destruction of the bridges on the
R. & F. RRd {Richmond, Fredericksburg &
Potomac RR} by the Enemy, some of the cars belonging to the MGRRd
{Manassas Gap RR} Co, taken charge of by the Government, by order Genl J S Johnson, on
the 9th March & afterwards, by the Sec of War, d?? to be returned
to the officers of that Company, could not be delivered in Richmond,
as agreed upon. These cars are now on the O&A RRd & V. C RRd {Orange
Alexandria RR and Virginia Central RR} and are No thus: House Cars, good order, 50, 71, 83, 45, 66, 15, 41,
52, 14, 72, 1, 6, 19, 43 & 87, out of running order, 7, 100, 58,
96, 97, 39 & 75. Gondola cars in running order, 48, 23, 22, 18,
11, 126 &21, out of order, 56, 127, 121, 0. Stock Cars, good
order, 171, 32 &48, out of order 39 & 1 Passenger & 1
Baggage Car, out of order. In all, 15 House, 7 Gondola 3 Stock cars in
running order, & 7 House Cars, 4 Gondola 1 Stock, 1 Passenger
& 1 Baggage or Mail car out of order. Making a total of 39 cars,
said last being made by actual examination by Wm Lewis Jno McDonald
& E B Sturman.

The above cars were all in running order when taken from
the MGRR & have been engaged in the Service of the Government
since, and will remain so, until the works on the Richmond &
Fredericksburg RRd are completed, so as to enable the government to
deliver them at Richmond.
