Dear Sir, |
Troops moved over this road frequently
take forcible possession of our cars & take them on to roads far
better supplied than we are. This course not unfrequently renders it
impossible for us to transport troops and Government freights in the
manner & terms required. I have no objections to our cars being
used when necessary and an inventory greater than the benefit to the
Government does not follow. If the commanding officer of a detachment
can take possession of our equipments at his pleasure, then it will be
impossible for me to meet the requirements of the Government. |
My road is now almost entirely stripped of
cars gone I know not where, to be returned I know not when, nearly 100
at Jackson Tenn. Can you apply a remedy. |
Yours &c |
