Your letter of the 19th came here during
my temporary absence. When I wrote you on the 4th last I expected four
(4) or five (5) cars loads of pig metal from the Shelby County Iron
Works by the Rail Road train of that day, ??? of which I ordered one car
load (eight tons) to be forwarded to you by first Boat. But no four has
been received from the Shelby furnaces until today and I have had a car
load deposited at the Landing to be sent to you by the first Boat that
will take it. I have also notified the Quartermaster here to furnish
transportation I have noted your order for 50 Tons each of hot and cold
blast iron to be forwarded as soon as it can be got ready. But it will
be some time before you can get it, as there are about 200 tons ahead of
it, and the furnaces do not at present turn out more than 20 tons per
week. In about six weeks from this time two new furnaces will be in
opperation which will increase the delivers to 120 tons per week. |
