Dr. Major,
I have the honor to inform you that, I have shipped today, for Columbus Iron Works via West Point two cars loaded with coal -- {Atlanta &} West Point cars #4 & 120.
Will you please send me some money, as I am getting rather short of funds, not expecting to remain here so long, I did not bring a large amount. There has been several small fights near here last week -- we have driven their forces from Battle creek -- Bridgeport, & Stevenson -- we heard very heavy firing in that direction last evening -- and it is reported this morning that the Federal have retaken it -- it is not generally believed -- also reported that they have evacuated Huntsville and our forces occupy it -- the Yanks are evidently retreating in all directions, according to reports of Prisoners  large numbers of whom are brought in every day.
Yours Respectfully
