Captain,
Two more car loads of Coal were shipped you today. I shall leave here this evening; nothing more can be done here at present on account of another Stampede among the miners. Yankees reported 20,000 strong within three miles of the mine I was at yesterday. Our troops are being hurried about, from one point to another; all Locomotives & cars are controlled by the Military authorities. I found yesterday about 500 lbs of lead in the hands of a Jew who of course had bought it from negroes The government officer at this place however had the refusal of it @ 12 1/2c and yesterday concluded to take it. There is no saw mills running as I can hear of, between here and Atlanta; on account of every one having gone to the Army. I will try between Atlanta & Macon and hope to succed better. Walker insists the cars contain 200 Bushels, I do not think so. I do not think it bess however to raise a fuss during the present excitement, as he might refuse to supply me, and in the mean time the mines be cut off.
Yours Respectfully
W. H. McDowell
