Dear Sir, |
You will each receipt of this accompany Mr
J Water on a train of ammunition destined for Covington & Madison. On
reaching Covington the ??y will stop with half the cars & you will
proceed with the remainder to Madison where you will use every exertions
to procure storage not only for what you may have in your possession but
also for other stores which will be sent you if possible hereafter. |
Please see that the cars are unloaded at
Madison without unnecessary delay, & hurry them back to Macon. |
Mr Terry who will accompany you on the
train, will assist you in the care of the stores to Madison. |

{This letter is in the Macon
Arsenal letterbook and was probably signed by Lt Col Cuyler. This
appears to be an attempt to get a stash of ammunition close to where the
Georgia RR was being repaired so that it could be used to supply the
armies in Virginia and North Carolina. The route the train probably used
was Macon & Western RR to Atlanta and the same cars on the Georgia RR to
the two named towns (about 35 and 60 miles east of Atlanta).} |
