Sir,
I have the honor to report my arrival here on Saturday evening and could do noting untill yesterday. I have hunted up all my boxes of Office Papers &c. and have them with Col Cuylers boxes at the {Savannah, Albany &} Gulf R. R. and I have my papers all fixed and shall leave for Thomasville & Albany tomorrow morning. I sent your dispatch to Col Gorgas on Saturday night and have recd no reply. Col Gorgas however upon the receipt of your Telegram dispatched Major Tayler Ordnance officer here to take charge of all the Ordnance stores sent from Macon and to ship those most valuable to Columbia S. C. Maj Taylor is talking about appropriating some of the stores to his own use here but is in some doubt about his having the right to do so. The arrangement is for Mr Ash to go with your stores Mr Millen to attend to the shipment of them and go with the last of them himself. My impression is that they will not go in that direction at all. The news here is that the enemy has landed a heavy force in Broad Rover near Pocatalico forty miles from here and will undoubtedly cut the Charleston & Savannah R. R. In that event the Gulf road is all there there will be left. Maj Tayler seems disposed to take everything into his own hands and manage things his own way. Mr Millen says he is but off for money and wants you to send him some at once. He also thinks his salary too small for the duties he has to perform. Mr Ash also wants money He wants you to send him his pay for this month I dont dare to part with any of my money as I may need it when I receive at but counted it at Albany before I have used any of it and am certain I am right. I will write you again from Albany.
Very Resptly
Your Obt Servt
