Captain, |
I have sent in charge of special messenger
P. C. Sawyer, sixteen crates to be filled with coke or coal in Selma
Ala. The crates will be loaded on platform cars, four on each & are
mounted on wheels so that they may be hauled across Montgomery & put on
board a steamer for Selma. In this way I will avoid breaking bulk at
Montgomery & Columbus. |
Should Mr Sawyer have any difficulty in
getting cars on which to load the crates at Columbus, I beg that you
will assist him to get them. It is a matter of the utmost importance to
have coal at this Arsenal. |
I am Captain |
Very Respectfully |

{Identical letter sent to Major
Harris, QM, Montgomery, for assistance in getting the creates to & from
a steamer.} |
