|
Major, |
I have a contract with Mr Jas F. Dever of
Polk Co. Ga for the supply of a large quantity of roofing slate for the
service of this Armory, but great difficulty has for some time been
experienced in regard to transportation, from Cartersville, (at which
point they are delivered) to Macon. |
Several car loads of slate have been lying
at the Depot at Cartersville {on the Western &
Atlantic RR} for nearly two months awaiting transportation and in
the mean time, many of the slates have been broken or carried away
without authority. You will therefore promote the public interests by
giving such orders as will secure prompt transportation for these slate,
and those to be delivered in future, as it is important to this Armory
that all the slate required should be secured as early as possible in
view of the possibility of being cut off from this the only source of
supply in all the Southern country. You will I am sure see the necessity
of the case, and do all you can to meet its requirements. Many cars come
down the R. R. by Cartersville empty, and there ought not be any
difficulty on this score. |
I think the matter only requires a little
attention on the part of the A. Q. M. or R. R. Agent at Cartersville,
which I presume your orders will secure in future. |
I have the honor to be |
Major |
Very Respectfully Your Obedt Servt |
