Dr Sir, |
We have this day shipped you 45 Bbl Lime
as per your order of 21st Inst & are also in receipt of yours of
24th Inst which reached us this day. We are sorry to learn that
there is some misunderstanding as regards the transportation
{on the Montgomery & West Point RR}
which you inform us was intended for your ???. Must ask at your hand
a fair investigation of the facts connected with this matter & let
the blame rest where it properly belongs & the facts are simply
there on 21st Inst two carrs were left on our track to load with
Lime & one sent off to Col Burton Loaded with Lime on 22nd the two
carrs were loaded & sent to other points on 23rd we received your
order for the 45 Bbls Lime. These are the facts, as they occurred &
besides this; we were never, informed, by any partie whatsoever;
that these two carrs left on 21st Inst. (the same day your order was
written) were for any special purpose. Justice to ourselves demands
that you should investigate the matter & let us hear from you on the
subject, for I do y??; that our purpose has been, & is ??? to
subserve the interest of government contracts in preference to all
things else & we feel mortified that any thing should occur to place
us in any other light before you. |
