| Sir, |
| I have your of the 25th inst,
Mr. Gentry Prest. N O Road {Texas & New Orleans
RR} is absent at present, as soon as the change in the time of
arrival & departure is made on the N O Road, I will change as you
suggest with the Central Trains. A sudden change like the one you
suggest will not only do no good, but will retard the conveyance of news
to the country. |
| The stage proprietors refuse
to alter the time only with due notice as they have to get new eating
houses and even sometimes to build new ones. |
| Would it not be advisable to
have the Galveston cars start at 5 1/2 or 6 am & reach here in time for
the Central cars, rather than have all the stage lines in northern and
eastern Texas change their times -- 5:30 or 6 is not a very early hour
for RR cars to start, especially as it is only temporary. |
| I will aid you by running
extra Trains, sending expresses, or in any way that I can. |
| Mr Gentry will be absent four
or five days. |
