I have yours of the 5th and
have only considered the duties & responsibilities that will probably
attach to the Head of the Cotton Bureau. His whole time and mind should
be employed. My duties as President of the "Central RR with my own
business call for my entire time, so the acceptance would necessarily
force me to relinquish the Presidency of the "Central. So I feel
compelled to decline. |
My friends have not properly
represented me to the Genl. What little of good name attaches to me from
a 25 yrs business in Texas is mere dure to the integrity, industry and
ability of assistants than to me. |
