Sir, |
At your request, made in compliance with
Special Order No 75 to ascertain and report upon the condition of this
work, I submit the following statement of my progress on the Central
Division. |
Since my last report of Sept I have
exerted myself to hasten the delivering of all material intended for
this work, and have received up to date, some 45,000 ft of timber
(being about one half the amt required) which I am hauling to the work
as fast as delivered. The piling being near the City, and lying on the
RR track, convenient for removal. I deem it important to furnish the
other timber first. I require some 500 cross ties which as yet I have
not been able to contract for. For all minor details in regard to
construction of Bridge, approaches, etc. please refer to my report of
Sept. |
I would state that owing to the difficulty
experienced in procuring labor, particularly carpenters, estimate of
time can be made; but I will state that I consider 30 days sufficient
to make the construction (at least temporary) of course predicated
upon being furnished with the necessary labor and also transportation
to deliver such materials as may be required. |
The Company which transport have stated
that they will meet the work on the G&H Road at any time and on or
before its completion, the necessary steps will have been taken, by
us, to have one division ready for use. |
I have the honor to be |
