Sir, |
A quantity of timber for White
Oak Bayou bridge is now lying at the Depot of the T. & N. O. R. R.
{Texas & New Orleans RR} and I am
unable to hire teams to haul it to the work; it is arriving constantly
and my intention is to remove it as fast as it arrives. Owing to the
scarcity of private teams, it is nearly impossible to do anything, as
I cannot depend upon them when I want them. I would therefore ask that
Gov teams be given me for this purpose. |
I am aware of the great press
for transportation here at times, and that everything at all able is
brought into requisition, and in case of emergency impressment has
been resorted to, to meet the demands; but frequently there are teams
and wagons idle. And I will so manage my operations as to use them,
when they are not employed and not interfere or interrupt their
regular work. |
If you will be kind enough to
give me the necessary order to call upon the Q. M. for teams from time
to time, as I may need them. It will greatly hasten the completion of
this work. |
I have the honor to be |
your obt Servt |
