I, Turnis Tunison of the first part, and
the Confederate States of America on the second part, represented by
Major J. Livingston Q. M. under instructions from the Quarter Master
General of September 4, 1863, and George Yongee Superintendent of the
Georgia Rail Road Company, do hereby agree that I, the said Turnis
Tunison will erect in the town of Greensboro' Georgia, one house
according to the annexed specifications in good faith, the whole to be
completed by the first day of December Eighteen hundred and Sixty
three. The site of said house to be where the cotton platform now is
at said station. |
For and in consideration of the sum of Six
thousand eight hundred and fifty dollars of which sum the Confederate
States of America by Major J. Livingston Q. M. are to pay the sum of
Four Thousand and Four hundred dollars and the Georgia Rail Road
Company to pay the sum of Two Thousand Four hundred and Fifty dollars
said respective sums to be paid on completion of said building. Also
the Georgia Rail Road bind themselves to transport the necessary
freight for the completion of said building free of charge. |
And it is further agreed between the
Confederate States of America and the Georgia Rail Road Company that
the above specified building at the termination of the war or as soon
thereafter as the Georgia Rail Road is ready to resume its regular
business, shall by virtue of this indenture be ceded to the said
Georgia Rail Road Company, it is further agreed that the Georgia Rail
Road shall have the privilege of using said building as a depot for
the reception and discharge of its freight. |

Specifications for the building of a Commissary Depot
for the Confederate States of America at Greensboro Green County
Georgia. |

The house to be one hundred & forty
feet long & forty feet wide full measurement. The foundation to be
twenty inches thick and raised to such a height as to bring the top of
the two inch floor on a level with the present rail road platform. The
character of the work to be the same as that of the Union Point Dept.
The bridge or centre wall to be the same as above. The three platforms
to have rock pillars of twelve by eighteen inches, set on a good base
of rock well bedded in mortar. All the foundations to be carried down
to the best clay foundation. The pillars not to be more than ten feet
from centre to centre. |
All of the above walls and pillars to be
capped with twelve by twelve inches hard pine sills bedded in mortar
and properly framed. All the floor joist for floors to be three by
twelve inches and placed eighteen inches from centre to centre &
to be in two sections, running across platforms & lapping in
centre and notching on sills so as to tie the house thoroughly
together. Also each floor or space to have one row of good herring
Bone bridging, the ends of joist to be cased with fascia. |
All the floors to be laid of two by twelve
inch lumber properly laid & nailed, the floors to platforms to be
the same. |
All the door & window posts to be six
by six inches, all the common posts to be two & a half inches by
six inches, all the corner posts six by eight inches. The Bents to be
fifteen in number, the roof to be framed with queen post, two braces
six by six inches with double supports of one a quarter by twelve
inches strongly spiked and a support over the walls. The heels of
rafters to be properly housed and bolted. Also to have two purloins
& ridge poles. The common rafters to be two feet from centres and
two and a half inches by six inches. The roof to be one third pitch
covered with good merchantable shingles. The roof to project over the
walls not less than five feet six inches on the sides & finished
with crown mould & fascia, the mould & fascia to be continued
round the ends with the roof. All the walls to be properly
weatherboarded with dressed lumber, all the projections to be properly
ceiled. |
There shall be three double doors on each
side of four by ten feet to roll on slide ass may be preferred. There
shall be two windows to one end with substantial shutters. |
Finally, the whole to be done in a good
and substantial manner and with the best merchantable materials. |
