Dear Sir, |
I beg leave to enclose copy of a letter
received by Mr Tininous proprietor of a Foundry at this place, in
relation to obtaining Coal from Alabama. As stated in a former letter,
the Nashville & Chatta {Nashville &
Chattanooga RR} & East Tenn & Ga {East
Tennessee & Georgia RR} R Roads have some Ten Engines
employed in transportation between this and Wilmington and Charlotte
N. C. These Engines are mainly dependant on our Machine shop for
repairs, and the Govt dependant on that Machinery together with our
own, which can not be kept up without a supply of Coal. |
If the Govt will give an order for
transportation of one hundred Tons {one train of
about 13 cars} we will make the effort to obtain it. We have no
Coal at present and our Foundry closed, and some heavy blacksmith work
suspended. |
I also enclose letter from Mr. J. N. Pake,
our agent at Decatur. Please inform me what can be done in the
premises. Our Depot at Decatur is small & we need it very much. |
Very Respy |
