Nineteen accounts without the
sub-vouchers, but certified by Captn & AQM Y A Railey have been
presented to me for payment by the Galveston Houston & Henderson R
R Co. |
The Quarter Master Genl advises their
payment if the troops transported had been mustered into
Confederate service at the date of transportation. The difficulty in
most of the cases is that the papers do not designate the Regiments.
Hence, the desired information cannot be obtained. In some of the
cases in which the Regiments are designated, the Regimental Rolls have
not been received at the Adjt Genl's office. In two cases (4th &
5th Texas Regiments) the troops were mustered into Confed.
service at the date of the transportation rendered. |
Will the affidavit of Mr. Briggs, the Vice
Prest of the RR Co to the fact that the Troops were in the Confederate
service, when transported, be sufficient? |
Very respectfully |
