Dear Sir, |
I herewith hand you a
descriptive list of all the men now in the employ of this company, a
good many of them are not subject to military duty but I prefer having
papers for all inasmuch as all are fivus{?}
their homes and may be subjected to annoyance at times where it would
be inconvenient for the Government to be without their services. |
It is important that the
detail should be made by the Secty of War for the fact that we are
running on Foreign Roads and at this time in no less than three
states -- Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina and were we are
ordered by Genl Johnson to send a portion of our stock to Dalton to be
used in East Tennessee and you will readily see how very important it
is that our papers for each man should be so issued as to guarantee a
protection which will insure the men from even temporary detention. |
This list is not sufficient to
meet our necessities and if the demand on us is at all increased we
will have to increase the force. |
I have today given your
brother another corn train for the present as he seems to be pressed
for the transportation of that article. |
I can neither spare the time
myself nor a man to send to Richmond for pay for Act & ??? work
about which I telegraphed you and I hope you have ordered payment to
be made here. The account has been fully audited and certified by
Capt. Delayls{?} and certainly all right. |
Truly your friend |
