Capt. L. P. Grant, Corps of Engineers |
In charge at |
Atlanta, Ga. |
|
Captain, |
Yours of the 17th ult. relative to the
condition of the works at Atlanta & to the salt works in Clark Co.
Alabama has been received. |
The Hon. Secretary of War consents, at
your suggestion, to the temporary abandonment of the salt works. You can
make such disposition of the force employed there as may seem best in
your judgment. |
There should be a monthly report of money
received and expended and of officers & hired men etc. but the Property
Returns should be made quarterly. |
Lieut. Glenn, Corps of Engineers, is at
present on duty with Genl. Hardee's command, engaged in saving as much
as possible of the rolling stock of the Mississippi Rail roads. |
Yours very respectfully |
A. L. Rives |
Lt. Col. & Acting Chf Bu. |
