| Two days since I received a communication
from E. B. Meade Esq. Treasurer Piedmont R. R. Co. enclosing a check
payable to my order for sixty-two thousand four hundred and seventy
47/100 dollars ($62,470.47) being the amount turned over to that company
by you, with the request that I would receipt to him for the money. As
the money was drawn from the Treasury by you & is charged to you on its
books, I have concluded to receipt to you for the amount of Mr M's check
& request that you receipt to him for it, as he receipted to you, not to
me, for the amount turned over to the company by you. |
| The above arrangement will much facilitate
the settlement of your account with the Treasury Department. |
| I enclose my receipt to you and also a
communication from Mr. Meade. |
