| Endorsement on short report from Capt L P Grant of
progress made on R. R. between Blue Mountain Ala & Rome Ga. in answer to
Senate Resolution of 13th May calling for this information & further
enclosing contract with the Ala & Tenn River R. R. Co. for the
construction of that portion of the road lying in Ala. 28 July 64 |
| Eng Bureau 6 Aug 64. The actual condition
of the work is as follows. Total distance 61 miles of which 31 miles are
graded & bridged (15 miles next to Blue Mountain & 16 miles next to Rome
leaving 30 miles to graduate, which it is represented will not require
more than 100 000 c. yards of work. |
| The great difficulty, almost
impossibility, of the Govt securing the necessary supply of rails,
coupled with the wants of the campaign in North Ga. have prevented the
vigorous prosecution of the work. Owing to these same wants, the Bureau
has been unable heretofore to give a clear report of the condition of
the works on the Blue Mountain & Rome R. R. connection. |
