To Commdg officer near Fredericksburg |
|
Sir, |
Under instructions from the War Dept. I
have assigned Leut Stuart Corps of Engrs to the duty of removing the
Rail Road iron from the Road north of Fredericksburg {Richmond,
Fredericksburg & Potomac RR}. I have
respectfully to request that you will extend all the assistance and
protection you can to the work. Rail Road iron is a ??? necessity to
the country and we should save every bar that can be reached. I hope
you send a force from your command to destroy the road and all its
material beyond the Potomac Run this may be the means of delaying most
any advance that may be attempted by the enemy from the Acquia creek
landing. |
Very Respectfully |
Your obt Servt. |
