Endorsement on letter from Chas Ellis,
Prest R&P RR Co {President, Richmond &
Petersburg RR} to the Quartermaster General dated Richmond June
29th 1863, calling his attention to the accident at Swift Creek bridge
and to the connections in Petersburg. Referred to this Bureau by Sec
of War. |
"Eng Bureau July 4th 1863. Competent
Engineers have been sent by direction of this Bureau to examine into
and report upon the practicability of improving the railroad
connection in Petersburg. The whole question has been studied and
plans prepared but the difficulty of procuring the requisite labor
delays action. Gen. Hill has been appealed to, but is unable to assist
by details. Capt. Dimmock engineer in charge at Petersburg, has been
authorized to collect a force if he can, to make the desired
improvements, which is certainly one of importance. Respectfully
returned to the Hon Secy of War. |
