| I desire you to examine carefully with a
view to a proper system of defence, the approaches to, & vicinity of,
Atlanta. Place yourself in communication with Col. Wright of the
Ordnance who is charged with the local defence, & act in concert with
him. All the necessary steps connected with the collection of a laboring
force, & materials, required for the execution of such works as may be
decided on, I wish you to take. |
