Dear Sir, |
I have just recd. your communication of
the 12th inclosing a letter from Mr. Seymour. There has already been
some correspondence on the subject you discuss between the officers of
the Danville R. R. {Richmond & Danville RR}& myself. Both President Harvie & Mr.
Talcott, Supt. express perfect willingness to make every necessary
arrangement to bring the hands, provided a short notice is given them
-- perhaps I should say sufficient notice -- say one or two days. I
have just written to Mr. James Lamb, who was very efficient in
collecting negroes in the Peninsula to engage his services on the same
duty in the counties recently called on. We want some 1200 or 1500
negroes but as yet have only received some 350 or 400, a number far
inferior to our requirements, |
Very truly yours, |
A. L. Rives |
