authority from Hon Sec'y of War to impress negroes & mules for
defensive works at Mattoax bridge. |
referred to Hon Sec'y of War & endorsed as follows: |
"Previous to the commencement of
harvest some laborers might be commanded, but the mules are indispensable
to work the corn. After harvest begins mules might be impressed for a
week or ten days. |
