Captain, |
Your letter of May 11th was recd. |
I presume by this time you are in
possession of the $30,000 for which requisition was made April 17th.
The Treasury Dept. has been unable to do much since the 1st of April
in consequence of the removal of the Treasury note Bureau to Columbia,
fighting &c but is now getting along much better. I made another
requisition in your favor, yesterday, for $100,000 for the purpose of
settling with Mr. A. L. Maxwell in duplicating Strawberry Plains
Bridge {on the East Tennessee & Virginia RR}
on the following terms, as per contract, a copy of which he
should furnish you. He furnishes if I am not mistaken his own tools,
pays his own expenses & charges the Government twenty per cent
(20%) on the original cost of labor, timber & iron not counting
the cost of transportation. If additional money is required please
inform me by telegraph & I will take immediate steps to have it
placed to your credit. |
Very Resp'y Yours |
