Endorsement on letter from Dr.
W. A. Smith dated Clarkesville, Va. June 6th, 1863. In reference to
removing the iron from the Roanoke Valley R. Rd. Asks that the line be
excluded till the 1st July. Desires that the Government employ the
hands of the Road in removing the same. |
"Respt. refd to Col.
Garnett and Capt. Walker who will please to correspond with Dr. W. A.
Smith, President of the Roanoke Valley Rail Road. A reasonable time
should be given the company to remove the produce collected at the
depots before taking the iron from the track, but formal possession of
the iron should be taken at once, and all persons forbidden to remove
it without authority from the Sec. of War." |
