Sir, |
In consideration of the very serious
consequences to be apprehended from any prolonged interruption of
communication upon your road. It is judged advisable to request you to forward as early as practicable to this
Bureau accurate measurement of the various important bridges between
this city & Staunton, so that in the event of the destruction of
any of them by the enemy, this Dept may be the more able to assist you
promptly & intelligently in their reconstruction, with any means
it may have at its disposition. It is hoped that the company will lose
no opportunity to collect & prepare materials for such a
contingency. The Dept. only proposes to offer its full & earnest
cooperation. |
Yours Very Respy |
