Colonel, |
Two companies of 1st
Engr Reg't under command of Lt Col Blackford have been detached to
take up iron on the {Richmond &} York
River R. R. intended for the repairs of the {Richmond
&} Danville R. R. These troops are a portion of Genl Lee's army & as
they are now engaged on severe labor by night & day, it is very
important for their efficiency that the full rations allowed to the
Army of N. Va. shall be allowed to them as well. The remainder of the
regiment is operating on the Danville R. Rd. and hence it is
impossible for Col. Blackford's detachment to draw their rations from
the regimental commissary. I therefore resp'y & earnestly
recommend that the same rations issued to the Army of N. Va. be issued
on Lt. Col. Blackford's requisition to his detachment by the
commissary at Richmond. |
Very Resp'y &c |
