Endorsement on letter from Col. C. F. M.
Garnett stating the difficulty in procuring R. R.
iron 22 June 64 |
Engr Bu 23d June 64 -- Resp'y
referred to the Hon Sec'y of War. The concurrent testimony of the
Commissioners as well as flats, convince me that the within
representations are correct, that owing to injunctions &c iron
cannot be obtained promptly now in sufficient quantity except by mil.
impressment as a matter of necessity. The want of iron for the main
lines is becoming of vital importance & if some steps are not
taken soon transportation will become exceedingly defective on the
main lines. |
