Not being able to
obtain full rations for the negro force on the defences of Richmond
and Petersburg, and as the full ration is essential, Col.
Stevens been authorized to procure additional meat and meal for their
supply. His commissary has purchased 5000 lbs of bacon and 3000
bushels of corn which it is essential we should have transported here
for the working force. Will you please to give authority for it to be
brought over the Railroad. |
