Colonel, |
I have just recd a
note from Mr. Ellis Presd't of R {Richmond}
& Petersburg RR stating that Genl R.
E. Lee desires the two miles of R. R. track torn up by the enemy
replaced as speedily as possible. Mr. Ellis states that if fifty hands
are sent tomorrow morning early to the depot they can be of great
assistance & enable him to meet Genl Lee's wishes far more
promptly. |
Under these
circumstances I resp'y but earnestly submit this application to you un
the hope that you will be able to respond to it. |
Very Respectfully &c |
A. L. Rives |
Col. &c |
If the hands can be
sent they should be provided with three days rations. |
