First endorsement on a letter of April 30th 1863 from Brigd.
Genl. James Cautey to O. M. Avery President of the Pensacola R.
Road. |
"The remaining portion of the iron on
the "Alabama & Florida Rail Road of Florida" can
be removed in our judgment, without serious objection. There are
advantages in being able to picket far in advance of the "Mobile
& Great Northern Rail Road" but we think this road can be
protected by proper vigilance without the use of all the remaining
part of the Alabama & Florida Road. Mounted pickets can be kept
sufficiently in advance without the latter road, to give good time for
concentration to guard threatened parts on the Mobile Road. We are
decidedly of the opinion that ten miles of the iron can be
recovered without serious risk to the public interests." |
